What is English for Academic Purposes?

This course will help you prepare for further study in Australia or for an IELTS test. It helps students to prepare the four macro-skills of reading, writing. speaking and listening, as well as developing abilities in specific EAP-related areas including Information and Communication Technology (ICT), study skills, research skills, note-taking skills and tutorial presentations. There is also a component of broader academic skills including awareness of Australian academic culture and critical analysis, catering for learners' future academic needs.

How is the course taught?

EAP is taught using an integrated approach to language teaching. This includes the communicative approach, genre teaching, and vocabulary extension . Learners' independent research skills are developed and encouraged, and exam strategies are also covered, including an oral presentation and a written assignment. Students will be taught the skills required to be successful participants in the higher education environment.

Teaching materials are taken from a broad spectrum of sources including published textbooks, newspapers, magazines, TV, radio and the internet. Classrooms are equipped with smartboards, allowing teachers to access the internet during lessons. Smartboard technology also means that students can take full advantage of our in-house web-based learning platform, which has been purpose built for our EAP programme.
